How late in the year can I plant vegetables?

For a spring and summer garden, we recommend planting your vegetables no later than the second week of May. Many plants can be put out earlier than that, but be sure to protect them from late freezes and cold nights.

What houseplants grow best in low light conditions like offices?

All plants need natural light to stay healthy and strong. There are, however, several varieties of houseplants that can survive in low light conditions. Peace Lilies, Bromeliads, Dracaena, Corn Plant, Cast Iron Plant and Chinese Evergreen are good choices for offices.

Why are my houseplants turning yellow?

It is natural for plants to shed old foliage from the inside out. If your plant is losing excessive foliage or the exterior leaves are turning yellow, your plant is most likely being under watered. Water your plants deeply and evenly at least once a week to prevent stress for your plant. If the roots of your plant are white then your plant is healthy, if the roots are brown, the plant is in need of water.

When should I plant trees and shrubs?

Most trees and shrubs can be planted all year round in Albuquerque. Planting trees in the Fall can be beneficial because the trees will not suffer transplant shock and a long period of dormancy will allow the tree to grow strong, healthy roots before it leafs out in the Spring.

When should I prune my trees?

Shade trees should be pruned in late January or February when the tree is in complete dormancy. Prune damaged, diseased or weak branches first, then continue to prune branches for aesthetics. Fruit trees should be pruned as late as possible in the Winter. Never 'top' your trees! Always trim branches just above a bud and use an artful eye when removing branches.
